A tribute to Dr. Justice AR. Lakshmanan on his superannuation

You are, sir, a tree that has grown in size
Like a banyan and in yield like mangoes,
Providing shade and food to travelers.
You are the embodiment of Mercy.

You’ve been bold in actions and decisions.
More by convictions than from commitments
With King Karikalan^ ruling your spirit.
You are the embodiment of Justice,

The Sun warms and the rain wets things alike.
You address the cases without bias
And render justice without colour.
You stand as an emblem for the Scales.

To give alms to the poor is compassion;
To console and sooth is of sympathy;
To share one’s sufferings is empathy.
You are the epitome of Empathy.

By humility you don’t lower yourself.
Instead, you put seekers on equal foot
And grant their wishes with their head held high.
You are a model of Humility.

Unlike trees that get tougher while they grow,
You have grown stronger while being tender.
Lords around, you remember Kuselars.*
You are the sign of Magnanimity.

You have done proud to the judicery.
You have done proud to the humanity.
An asset to parents and to the progeny,
You’re the tower of Nagarathar’s# pride.

Unlike Lkshmana’s in the Ramayana,
Your consort, Meenakshi, is who warms
You in winters and cools in summers,
You may both live like Ardhanarishwar.

The post retirement path may branch and grow!
Merits and virtues may take you high in glow!
Be your posterity a perennial flow.
You, peace and bliss like shadow may follow.
